Apr. 11th, 2002 01:00 amI Sam. 15:13, "And Samuel came to Saul: and Saul said unto him, Blessed be thou of the Lord: I have performed the commandment of the Lord."How often I hear people claim to be in submission to the Lord…yet it is NOT complete obedience! What does God require in obedience? Saul's motives appeared to be sincere, but…How oft do we doubt God's sovereign purposes? How often do we think we know better?! We must trust God and demonstrate that trust through our obedience. Faith and works must, once again, be united in the form of obedience based on belief/trust.
I Sam. 15:22-23, TO OBEY IS BETTER THAN SACRIFICE.Conversely, when you deliberately act contrary to God's commands, it's just about the same thing as getting into the occult and idol worship. According to the above statement about the prioritization of obedience, perhaps obeying the devil is even worse than occult-type rituals. In a way, I suppose this is mere speculation on my part, yet it is clear that our obedience is what God desires most.
I Sam. 15:24, "And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice."Saul disobeyed because he listened to the people more than he heeded God's commands. We must never let what others say get in the way of our obedient service to the Lord!
I Sam. 15:35, "And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul: and the Lord repented that he had made Saul king over Israel."Saul fulfilled God's warnings (to Israel) about a king…and God "repented" for making Saul king. Repented? Does repentance have more to do with changing the way things are than it has to do with regret over one's past?
