And so it began...

"Loving Choices. This is Pamela. How can I help you?" "Hello. My daughter is [x] years old and she's [x number of] weeks along. She wants to terminate. How much will it cost?"
I wrinkled my forehead in slight confusion. How much will what cost? What part of the Loving Choices did you think was not pro-life? So I asked, "How much will what cost?" "Termination," she replied. "Oh, hang on for a second." I pressed the hold button and explained the situation to the director, who took the call in her office.
Two seconds later she had returned with a flip chart explaining what to do when we receive calls like that. The chart listed responses for an abortion-minded caller, but it was not specific on what to do if that caller was the mother of the pregnant woman. Actually, I am still not quite sure how one would handle that most effectively. The call was quite brief, since the director merely explained that Loving Choices does not offer abortion services.
But it was an interesting call. I had not yet learned protocol on what we are and are not allowed to say on the phone, which was why I did not feel quite ready to handle the call myself. I had already been given responses for various possible scenarios, but those consisted of making appointments with actual clients, not giving information to their mothers! I hope to be more prepared next time such a thing happens.
Today was my first day of training. In the course of the four hours I was there, one woman prayed to receive the Lord and several others came in for newborn gift baskets. Few of the people I saw today were actually pregnant, to be honest, but they were in need. As I saw needs being met I realized that this is, indeed, where I desire to be. As one of the ladies today pointed out, "It doesn't get much better than this!" Jesus was right in what He said when He took that towel and the water and started washing feet. If you want to be great, you do need to be a servant of all!

One of the most refreshing aspects of being at the CPC is the realization that I am a part of a team that actually cares about people and especially about their spiritual wellbeing! I don't really know why I find that so wonderful, but I do. Why does it seem so...different from normal? I really don't know! I'll have to think about that some more.
Anyway, that's my experience for the day. I'm excited because I don't think that my time at the CPC will be at all boring!
